Immerse Yourself in St. Croix Culture and Fun With These 4 Events

When you stay at the Mango Hill Greathouse on St. Croix, you’re guaranteed to bring home postcard-worthy photos and memories. But beyond relaxing under the Caribbean sun, have you considered other activities during your stay? Here are four of our favorite upcoming events that are sure to spice things up and immerse you into the local culture!

Art Thursday

Just an eight-minute drive from the house in the waterfront town of Christiansted, Art Thursday is the ultimate artistic experience for visitors. What’s better – it’s free! On the third Thursday evening of each month from November to June, stroll through the vibrant downtown community and browse local artists’ one-of-a-kind pieces.

Enjoy the live music, delicious drinks, and unique vendors to get a taste of the St. Croix-style art. Emerging and established artists put their best work on display, including pottery, paintings, sculptures, jewelry, photography, fabrics, carpentry and more. What a perfect way to remember your trip with an authentic and local artistry souvenir from your night out and gallery walk!

Jump Up!

Head to the streets of Christiansted and enjoy Jump Up! this Thanksgiving. Jump Up! is a colorful celebration of music and dance (Jump Up! means “to dance” throughout the Caribbean), occurring four times each year with the next event slated for Thanksgiving weekend.

What can you expect? Visitors and locals line the streets to enjoy lively costumes and amazing food in addition to traditional dance and calypso music. Costumed dancers, known as the Moko Jumbies, move through the streets on six-foot-tall stilts to scare away evil spirits (and hopefully, not the children).

St. Croix Triathlon

When it comes to hosting worldwide athletes, the island is no newcomer. For 30 years as a triathlon host, St. Croix welcomes athletes December 2, 2018, for the Beauty and the Beast Triathlon.

During your stay, you can cheer on the participants who will begin their trek with a swim in the beautiful Christiansted harbor, then transitioning to a bike ride up “the beast” (a 15% grade climb). If you don’t want to go into town to see the action, your best view will be right from the house. The athletes will run through the Buccaneer Beach and Golf Resort, which backs up to the Mango Hill Greathouse.

Christmas Boat Parade

Nothing combines the joy of Christmas with the spirit of the island quite like the annual Christmas Boat Parade. December 8, 2018, marks the 24th year that the parade will celebrate the December holiday and marine life on St. Croix.

Local businesses and island residents alike deck out their boats with a combination of Christmas lights and tropical décor. You’ll see Santa, reindeer and other festive favorites right on the boardwalk in Christiansted. To cap off the parade, stick around for the fireworks finale that lights up the harbor sky.

We know you’ll love your stay at Mango Hill Greathouse, but we want you to experience the island culture to the fullest! Be sure to pencil in a few events to make the most of your visit in St. Croix. If you’re ready to book your stay, call 1-866-466-2646 today.
